The Deck
The This Might Hurt Tarot deck is a loving update of the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition. It stays in touch with the symbolism and imagery of the original and updates it pulling it out of it's medieval context in which diversity is embraced and queerness is lovingly acknowledged. Additionally, clothing and scenery are modernised. The deck is suitable for both the seasoned Tarot reader and the complete beginner. The connection with tradition, ease of reading and the clear guidebook make this a great beginner's deck.
The Creator
Isabella Rotman says this about why she chose the name for her deck: "Most things worthwhile might hurt. When I started reading, studying and drawing tarot I was struck that it is the same. It's going to tell you what you need to hear, and it doesn't care if it feels good, so long as it's good for you. It's a deck of cards, not a person, so it's not afraid to tell you that you need to take a real good hard look at yourself and your choices. That the future might not be bright - it might be HARD. But that's okay. Most things worth doing might be hard, most things worth doing might hurt. When I started working on my own deck, the name felt like the perfect match. It might be beautiful, it might be painful. It will probably be both. There's always an edge of hope."
