The Deck
Each card, a full watercolor painting, is inspired by a real pup, infusing this deck with character and personality.
Dogs are a positive force in our lives, meaning this deck takes a slightly more optimistic perspective on traditional Rider Waite Smith symbolism. Essentially, it is meant to be traditionally interpreted—with a dash more hope in the cards. This deck can be used for traditional readings, for humans or canines alike!
The Creator
The Barkana was created by Calion Smith, a trans and disabled artist and a trafficking survivor who lives with dissociative identity disorder. Calion says "Art has often been a way of finding freedom for me, especially uplifting illustrations in watercolor. This project has been a dream of mine for five years—starting with a simple sketch of my fiancé’s family dog and turning into a project that features dozens of pups."
